The share of fine-cut tobacco in the total tobacco market drops.
This chart shows the decline of the share of fine-cut tobacco in the combined market for cigarettes and fine-cut.The chart is based on a moving 12-month average of the monthly tax-stamp statistics of the Ministry of Finance.

Also on the longer term, consumers have been gradually switching to cigarettes instead of fine-cut tobacco. In 1989, the market share of fine-cut (again, in the collective consumption of cigarette and fine-cut) was almost 53%. Currently, this market share is around 42%.
Below, a chart shows annual cigarette and fine-cut tobacco sales from 1995 to 2009. The yellow line represents the market share of fine-cut tobacco as a percentage of the total combined cigarette- and fine-cut market. Sales amounts are "x 1 million cigarettes" and "x 1000 kilogram".

The four Dutch manufacturers of fine-cut tobacco produce 32% of all sales in the 27 EU member states.
